Project Description

Michael J. Shannon was born in 1973 in Portland, Oregon. He grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and attended Willamette University College of Law in Salem,Oregon, graduating in 2000. During his time in law school, Mike worked as a clerk in the Oregon Department of Justice and with the Nevada Attorney General’s Office in Las Vegas. Mike graduated in the top quarter of his class.

Upon graduation, Mike relocated to Las Vegas, where he has practiced ever since. Initially, Mike joined a boutique law firm that specialized in the representation of businesses and employers in labor and employment matters. For just over two years, Mike thus concentrated his practice on employment litigation, handling cases before the Nevada Equal Rights Commission and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as cases in both state and federal courts.

After realizing that employment law was not his thing, Mike moved into the realm of insurance defense, joining the law firm of Broening Oberg Woods Wilson & Cass. This Phoenix based firm was later acquired by one of the nation’ s largest civil litigation defense firms, Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP. Mike spent eight years at Lewis Brisbois and was named a partner in the firm in 2008.

During his time with Lewis Brisbois, Mike concentrated his practice on professional liability defense, spending the majority of his time defending medical malpractice actions. In that context, Mike defended physicians and medical practices in trial and arbitration. In addition to medical malpractice defense, Mike handled cases involving premises liability and motor vehicle accidents.

In 2011, Mike left Lewis Brisbois to become “of counsel” with Hall Jaffe& Clayton LLP, where he maintains a varied practice focused primarily on defending civil actions in state and federal court. At the beginning of 2013, Mike became a partner with the firm.

Mike is married with two daughters, Ava and Ella. When not at work, Mike likes nothing better than spending time with his family.
